Arthur Conley - I Can't Stop (No, No, No) (Fame 1007)
I Can't Stop (No, No, No)
Seeing as how this song is only available on a pricey import, I figured it would be a good candidate for a post over here on the "A". The fact that it also just plain ROCKS in that 'northern soul floor filler' kinda way, didn't hurt its chances any either! This is fame at it's finest, bro.
Now here's a question for all of you detectives out there, WHO is that on the second vocal? Womack? Sam Moore? Joe Tex? Conley himself on an overdub? Hmmm...

There's a Ben and Spence version of this verstion on Atlantic recorded at the Fame studio with a different arrangement.(sorry rekkids in a box somehwheres). I like the Arthur version, but the baritone sax on the Ben and Spence ain't no slouch, either.
Tony Suarez
Bobby Patterson?! that little heyut heyut is a dead giveway.
Arthur Conley rocks, but brother Solomon Burke's version (Bell 759) blows this right out of the water.
That high voice is Arthur Conley overdubbing a second voice. He was recorded like that on many Fame tracks.

I think its an overdub with himself.
It's hard to get up into that register comfortably, which Arthur,
& Sam Cooke could do.
Listen to the ATCO album, and
you'll hear it more than once.
That album, by the way, has the best
"Wholesale Love" & "Take Me As I Am"
that i've ever heard. (my humble
opinion).
This used to be one of my favorite songs at that time.

I couldn't have said it better! I used to drive my roommate in college crazy with this runnin' all the time. How anyone couldn't appreciate it is beyond me. Told him to get his ears checked!
By the way, gotta go with Anonymous on this one, it's definitely Conley.

Right on brother. No one can touch Old Solley's version.
