Oscar Toney, Jr. - For Your Precious Love (Bell 672)

For Your Precious Love

Here's Oscar's deep soul masterpiece, recorded in one take down in Memphis in 1967.

As I was saying on the other side, Papa Don Schroeder overdubbed the strings and background vocals on West 47th Street in Manhattan. It doesn't get much better than this, y'all.

Oscar's version is right in there w/Jerry Butler & The Impressions. This song would be interesting if it was done by the Flamingos around 1959. Now, if I could only find 'Watch Your Step' by Brooks O'Dell somewhere... If ya ever post it, please contact me. mikelj3@netzero.net Thanks!!!

One of my all time faves. This guy would make a nursery rhyme sound great! Probably the most underrated artist of all time!

I hadn't even thought of this song in over 35 years. One day, as I woke, the song was in my mind and stuck there. I was singing it and couldn't even remember who had done it. Tonight the name of Oscar Toney Jr. just came to me. Google= I'm here. The memories came back of me being the only white kid in a chitlin' circuit nightclub called "Club Lavanna" in Columbus, GA. With me was a stunning, absolutely alive, 16 year-old redhead, some 3 years my junior, who was so beautiful that Wilson Picket picked her out to throw a gold cuff link to after a show. Life is so great when one can have memories like that! Nuc.
