The Delfonics - La-La-Means I Love You (Philly Groove 150)

La-La-Means I Love You

Randy Cain 1945-2009

Randy Cain, a founding member of the Delfonics left us this past year. That's him on the right in the photo above.

This incredible song we have here was one of the earliest examples of the smooth 'Sound of Philadelphia' that was about to rule the airwaves. It was written and produced by Thom Bell who, along with Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff, was one of its prime architects. When the 45 was released in early 1968, it spent a month at #2 R&B, second only to Chain Of Fools and I Wish It Would Rain. It pretty much changed everything, and paved the way for groups like The Stylistics (who would be Bell's next project) and Cain's own Blue Magic, who would hit the top of the charts a few years later with the superb Sideshow.

May He Rest In Peace.
